Winter Style Wishlist

It's that time again; the time I share with you the top five items I would like to add to my wardrobe this season. Let's get into it:

Columbia Shimmerlicious Jacket in Blue Macaw - I've been wearing the same handful of winter jacket for many years now. I usually wear items until they absolutely need to be replaced. However, I think it's time to get a new one. This jacket is a beautiful colour, looks nice, and has a fur hood which I love. Living in Canada, I have to sacrifice a chic looking coat for something a bit more practical, unless I want to pay a ton of money. This coat is the perfect middle ground for me. It has a ton of 'features', more than I can share here, but if you're interested, just click the link above.

Topshop Fairisle Beanie Hat - I love beanie hats in the winter! This one is super cute cream one with the fairisle print, and the faux fur pom.

Dynamite Sequin Bodycon Dress - This dress is amazing. This dress will work great for New Years, and also my birthday which is coming up in January. The cut is flattering, and not too short.

Boohoo Petite Ivy Oversized Jumper in Silver - I definitely need more warm basics in my wardrobe, which for whatever reason I've always been lacking, despite the frigid temperatures here. This sweater is flattering because of its oversized cut, but doesn't look boxy.

Hunter Original Six-Stitch Cable Boot Socks in Greige - The more I wear my hunter boots, the more I love them. To winter-proof them I would like to purchase some warm boot socks such as these. The grey colour will go with everything as well, and is my favourite neutral.

What is on your winter style wishlist?

Ipsy December 2015 Unboxing

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you have a lovely time with your families this holiday season.

As far as I know, this month doesn't have a theme, but the card in the package expresses thanks from Ipsy, which is a nice touch!

This is the third month in a row that I haven't been a fan of the bag the products come in. However, I don't subscribe to this 'box' for the bag, I do for the products inside.

Klorane Floral Water Makeup Remover - Contains soothing cornflower. Safe for sensitive face and eyes. This has a slight sweet floral scent to it. I'm always looking for a better makeup remover, so I'm hoping this removed mascara and eyeliner well.

Pacifica Natural Lipstick in Nudie Red - 100% vegan, cruelty-free. This is a nice rosy nude shade, and is in similar packaging to ColourPop lippie stix. You can use the code MTMPAC for 10% select Pacifica items at Target.com.

Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder - I have never used a loose finishing powder before. This product will give me the opportunity to try the baking trend that has been all over YouTube. Tarte is a pretty great brand to receive in an Ipsy bag too!

Elizabeth Mott Thank Me Later Eye Shadow Primer - I use eye shadow primers every time I do my makeup. I have oily lids and require mine to prevent creasing. This is pink in colour, and has a bit of a silicone-y feel.

Acure Cell Stimulating Facial Mask - Argan stem cell and chlorella growth factor. This is vegan, sulfate-free, cruelty-free, paraben free, gluten free, and so much more. Wow, I'm quite impressed the those claims. It's hard to find beauty products that are so sustainable.

Ipsy must have been saving the best for last. I am super excited to try every product I received this month. They have definitely redeemed themselves from the last few months!

What did you get in your Ipsy bag this month?

Review | Too Faced Born This Way Foundation

The Too Faced Born This Way Foundation has been hyped up in the beauty community over the past few months. I jumped on this bandwagon as soon as I could 'justify' *cough cough* a high end foundation purchase, and have been loving it since.

Claims

"This oil-free foundation masterfully diffuses the line between makeup and skin. Coverage so undetectable and skin so naturally radiant, they'll think you were born this way."

100% said this foundation blurred their imperfections
98% said this foundation made their skin look absolutely perfect
97% said this foundation provided natural coverage

Beneficial Ingredients

Coconut water to delicately replenish skin's moisture levels.
Alpine rose to brighten skin's appearance and promote elasticity.
Hyaluronic acid for a smoother, more youthful appearance.

Product Overview

The packaging is luxurious. The heavy, frosted bottle with the gold writing is beautiful. It comes with a pump for easier application, and so you don't waste as much product.

The formula of this foundation is not too heavy. It feels nourishing on the skin. Provides a natural finish, which stays looking great all day, even on my oily skin, and doesn't cling to any dry patches I have currently.

The shade range at Sephora is pretty good, in my opinion, with 18 shades to choose from in a variety of warm, cool, and neutral undertones.

This foundation is C$49, which is on par with other high-end (not luxury) foundations at Sephora.

I always wear this foundation with a primer underneath, as I do all other foundations. Usually a pore filling/smoothing primer in my t-zone and a hydrating one everywhere else. I also perfect to apply it with a brush as opposed to a sponge. The Sephora Collection Classic Multitasker Power brush #45 does a great job.

I would recommend this to those of you who have oily skin, like I do. Despite it not being a matte foundation, it does not leave me looking oily within a few hours of wear like others I have tried. I wouldn't know if it would work well with other skin types, but can tell you it doesn't cling to my dry patches, as mentioned above, that I've gotten due to the colder months.

I hope this review was helpful. What are your thoughts on this foundation?

Winter Skin Essentials

As the winter months are finally upon us, it is time to integrate more moisturizing products into our routines. Today I'm sharing with you my favourite winter skin essentials for your body, hands, lips, and skincare.

Body

The Body Shop Body Butters - Every winter I dig out all my Body Shop Body Butters. They smell amazing and are super moisturizing. As they are so thick, I only apply these before bed. When I wake up the next morning my skin is so lovely and soft, and it stays hydrated all day.

L'Occitane Almond Shower Oil - This shower oil smells amazing!! It cleans  your body just as well as a standard shower gel, but leaves your skin silky smooth. I don't feel the need to moisturize after using this.

Aveeno Baby Soothing Relief Moisture Cream - Throughout the winter I get really sore dry patches, almost like eczema patches. This happens mostly on my calves, elbows, eyelids and brow bone. Every other lotion I tried to heal them stung so bad I just opted to leave them. I was actually digging through my sons lotions because he's getting really dry skin this season as well and tried this baby lotion. It is so incredibly gentle and nourishing. I would recommend this for anyone with eczema, or just super sensitive skin.

Hands

Lush Lemony Flutter Cuticle Butter - I apply this to not only my cuticles, but my knuckles too if they are cracking. It smells like lemon candy. It does a great good at preventing and healing hang nails.

Caudalie Hand and Nail Cream - This is the most luxurious hand cream I have every tried. It has 98% natural ingredients. It's supposed to protect your hands with anti-oxidants. To me, it smells like earl grey tea, but in the best possible way. Is that weird?

Lips

Lush Mint Julips Lip Scrub - If you get dry lips in the winter, but still love to rock a matte lip colour, you need a good lip scrub in your life. I love this sugar scrub from Lush, it smells and tastes great; like mint chocolate. This is also a great vegan option.

Melaleuca Sun Shades Lip Balm - This lip balm contains SPF, which so many of us forget to protect our lips from the sun all year round. Any hydrating lip balm will do, this is just the one I've been reaching for.

Lush Whip Stick Lip Balm - This whipped chocolate orange lip balm in heavenly. Like the lip scrub, it smells and tastes amazing. It's super thick and hydrating. I apply this every night before bed.

Skincare

Josie Maran Argan Oil - In the summer I have super oily skin! But now that the winter months have rolled in, it's done a 180 on me and I have dry patches, and irritated skin. For a ultra nourishing treat for my skin, twice a week I skip my usual serum and moisturizer and apply this argan oil.

Origins GinZing Energy-Boosting Moisturizer - Dull skin is another problem many people face in the winter months. The current day time moisturizer has been this. It livens up my skin, and smells of orange candy. Yum!

Algenist Complete Eye Renewal Balm - As mentioned above, I've been struggling with super dry patches on my brow bone and lids. This eye cream has been another game changer. My under eye area has been transformed by this. Pictured above is the sample size, but the full size is $80!! It would be too heavy for me in the summer, but right now it's perfect.

What are your winter skin essentials?

Review | Dove Invigorating Dry Shampoo

The Dove Invigorating Dry Shampoo was featured in my most recent drugstore haul, in which I made a big claim. I may like this slightly more than my beloved Batiste.

Claims

"Refreshes between washes. Absorbs oil between traditional washes so hair looks and feels refreshed. Weightless formula cleans to transform lifeless hair, so you can enjoy fresh, volumized hair, even when you skip your regular wash."

Product Overview

The packaging is sleek and classy. Quite a lot bigger than the Batiste, but still not bulky.

The scent is clean and fresh, much like other Dove products I have used in the past. It does linger all day in your hair. Because it is a nice scent I don't mind too much, but it does sometimes compete with my perfume which I'm not a fan of.

The formula of this dry shampoo is very light-weight. I am still able to run my fingers through my hair, it doesn't leave a powdery residue once you've rubbed it in, and brushed it out.

Priced at around $5, it is much less expensive than Batiste.

This refreshes my hair between washes just as much as Batiste, both are amazing products. I would say I like this one the tiniest bit more because of the lightweight formula and the price. However, the scent of Batiste doesn't compete with my perfume as much. So it is completely up to personal preference. I will continue to repurchase both products.

Hope this review was helpful. Have you tried this dry shampoo? What are your thoughts on it?

Ipsy November 2015 Unboxing

This months theme is Beauty Blast; The Stars Are Aligning.

I personally am not a fan of the bag again this month. But, Maxwell was super excited when he saw it because it's outer space. So I'm sure it will be used in some form.

Luxie Eye Shadow Pan in 290 - This is not very pigmented, doesn't swatch well, and is very hard in the pan. It is a matte aubergine color. I wish this wasn't just the pan as well. Personally, my Z palettes are full, and am not going to buy another.

Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara - I haven't heard too much about this mascara. I'm not going to open it yet because I have so many to go through. But, I will try this at some point and update you if you want. The bristle brush, looks exactly like the wands I prefer.

Jelly Pong Pong Cosmetics Liquid Gossamer - This liquid highlighter is a deep copper-y shade. This would only work on deeper skin tones. It is beautiful, but I will have to pass it on to a friend. It seems super long wearing as well, once it drier on my hand, it will not budge.

Coolway Strong Hold Spray - The volumizing spray/ hairspray will be great for travel. It also actually smells nice!

Slmissglam Blush Brush - This brush is so cute. However, it is a weird size; a bit too small for a blush brush, in my opinion. I will try to find a use for it, or pass it on as well.

I'm back to being a bit meh about Ipsy. If next month isn't better, I will be cancelling my subscription.

What did you get in your Ipsy bag this month?

Sephora VIB Sale Haul | November 2015

I was beyond excited to finally be eligible for the VIB sale at Sephora, as this was my first year as a VIB. I set myself a limit of 5 items, so I wanted to ensure they were all products I have been wanting for ages, and that were highly rated in the beauty community.

Philosophy Purity Made Simple Cleanser - I have used up a couple cleansers and was in need of something new to try. This claims to remove all makeup and deep clean pores, which is definitely what I need. I like a cleanser that is gentle, yet still cleans my skin well. I will update in my next Skincare Overhaul post.

Too Faced Born This Way Foundation - I've had a sample of this foundation for awhile now and have been loving it! I knew I wanted to get the full-size anyway, so I waited (very impatiently) for the VIB sale. Also the sample I have is in my summer shade, which is too dark now. I loved the formula so much I continued to use it mixed in with a lighter foundation to up the coverage.

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara - I've wanted this the moment it launched. As time went on, and people continued to rave about it , I've wanted it more and more. I was forcing myself to wait until I've gone through the ones I am currently using. However, the sale came and well, I caved and bought it :).

Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper - In my last empties post, I included the Stila Stay All Day liner, which I did like, but I wanted to try a new high-end liner because I tend to reach for drugstore ones more. My next obvious choice was this Kat Von D one, and am excited to try this out.

Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette - This is the purchase I am most excited for! This is my first high-end eye shadow palette. I found it hard to decide between the original or the semi-sweet, but after watching Kathleen Lights Makeup Stash video on palettes, I picked the original one because it's her all time favourite. It smells of chocolate, the shades are beautiful, and it looks so versatile. I cannot wait to start playing with this!

Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Set - Lastly, I got a 500pt perk. Casey Holmes raves about the Caviar shampoo and conditioner. Although this says it's for dry hair, I'm hoping it will work for me, with my color-treated hair, and sensitive scalp. The sample sizes are pretty generous as well, so you're able to get a good feel for the product.

What did you pick up in the sale?

Top 5 Autumn/Winter Lipsticks | 2015

Today I wanted to talk to you about my top five lipsticks for autumn/winter this year. I had a bit of a hard time coming up with these five, because many were too similar, or were not available anymore, and I wanted to share ones you could still pick up if you wanted.

I've chosen 3 standard lipsticks, and 2 liquid lipsticks. The four starting on the left are matte, and the last one on the right is and cream formula. The matte lip trend has definitely continued into fall, and I much prefer the matte formula on darker tones because they are more long-lasting, and I'm not worried about them smearing across my face throughout the day, and I don't have to reapply as often.

L-R: Rimmel 107, Ofra Miami Fever, Maybelline Touch of Spice, Too Faced Melted Fig, Revlon Black Cherry

Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss in 107 - This shade is the perfect deep red, cool tone, blue based, with a purple twist. This lipstick has been made popular by Zoe Sugg, and it truly is a beautiful colour.

Ofra x Kathleen Lights in Miami Fever - This screams autumn to me. It's a unique burnt orange shade, that I've never seen in a lipstick before. I get so many compliments when I wear this. As you all know by now, Kathleen is one of my favourite YouTubers and I love supporting her by buying her colaborations. This is limited edition, so if you want it, go now! It's already been sold out before but because it was so popular, they brought it back one more time.

Maybelline Matte in 660 Touch of Spice - This dark mauve is so wearable! The Maybelline Matte lipsticks are my favourite drugstore matte formulation. If I'm not going for a nude, this shade is my go-to for everyday.

Too Faced Melted in Melted Fig - On the Sephora website it is described as a rosy orchid, which is spot on. It's a unique twist on a purple lipstick that makes it more wearable. The applicator on these melted lipsticks are great too which is important with such a bold colour.

Revlon Super Lustrous in 477 Black Cherry -  This deep, blacken cherry shade makes a statement. This is the only crème shade I've included in my top five, but this is still incredibly long wearing. As you can see in the swatch above, it is not nearly as dark as it appears in the bullet. It also makes your teeth look super white!

Which lipsticks are in your top 5 for autumn/winter? Are there any I should pick up?

Review | Fresh Black Tea Age-Delay Instant Infusion Treatment Toner

The Fresh Black Tea Age-Delay Instant Infusion Treatment Toner was featured in my most recent skincare overhaul post. I mentioned in that post that I wanted to post a full review, and after using it for almost two months, I have a good feel for what this product does.

Claims

"Fresh Black Tea Age-Delay Instant Infusion is proven to provide 24 hours of moisture and significant protection from environmental stressors while evening skin tone and refining skin texture. The radiance-boosting formula also softens the skin which allows ingredients to penetrate more deeply, enhancing the efficacy of your complete skincare ritual."

Beneficial Ingredients

Black tea, blackberry leaf extract, and lychee seed extract inhibits damaging free radicals and improves skin elasticity. Polysaccharides help to smooth the skin. Japanese mandarin extract boosts radiance and evens skin tone. Hyaluronic acid attracts and seals in moisture. Rosewater is soothing and balancing. Finally, vitamins E and C for added protection.

Product Overview

This toner is housed in a heavy, glass bottle. Not ideal for travel but adds a touch of luxury.

In other reviews I've read, people have found the scent too overwhelming, so keep that in mind. But, I actually really enjoy the scent of black tea. It doesn't linger, but it is quite potent upon application.

I use this on alternating nights with the Clinique Acne Solutions Clarifying Lotion, in my night skincare routine. Applied after cleanser, before the Boscia Balancing Facial Tonic. I apply it with my finger tips as opposed to a cotton round because I would rather it be absorbed into my skin, not the cotton round.

There has been a noticeable difference in my skin since using this product. I agree with all the claims, except I can't really tell if the product is doing a good job protecting against environmental stressors. But, my skin is more radiant, moisturized, and the texture and skin tone have improved.

In my opinion, this product is definitely worth the $56 price tag.

I hope this review was helpful. Have you tried this toner?

Empties | Products I've Used Up | 4

After stating in my last empties post, that I'd be doing them monthly... I skipped last month. Oops. In my defense, I only finished around 3 products, so I didn't feel it would be worth sharing. Over the last two months I  have finished 7 beauty products.

Body

LaVanila The Healthy Body Butter in Pure Vanilla - After seeing this product featured in one of Kathleen Lights favourites videos,  I had remembered I received a sample in my Ipsy bag. This smells like a grown up version of a sweet vanilla scent, so yummy. It was  incredibly hydrating and is made with all natural ingredients. I would definitely repurchase.

LaVanila The Healthy Deodorant in Pure Vanilla - I think I got this sample size in a Sephora Favourites set last year. I was trying to use products that were better for my skin, but a natural deodorant just doesn't quite do the trick. The scent was not the same as the body butter either. All the oils in the product seeped out, getting all over my dresser, and left the product inside dry and crumbly, but I used it all anyway. This was only effective on days you had not much to do, a lay around the house day. I wouldn't recommend this.

Secret Destinations Collection Deodorant in Hawaii Citrus Breeze - I'm only including this as a comparison to the LaVanila one. This smells lovely, and worked great. However, is says it is invisible, but it would get on my clothes if I put deodorant on before getting dressed, or I changed outfits.

Hair, Makeup, Skincare

Batiste Dry Shampoo in Original - Another empties post, another Batiste. This was my holy grail dry shampoo, until a new love came into my life. Check out my recent drugstore haul to see the new kid in town. This dry shampoo is still amazing, and I have already repurchased.

Maybelline Shiny-Licious Lip Gloss in 60 Strawberry Tart - We went out for an unplanned dinner out one night last week, so I quickly threw on some makeup, and was digging through my lip glosses to rediscover this. However, we I dug it out, I noticed it was all separated and smelled a little weird. God knows how long I've had this floating around but it time for it to go. Also, by the looks of the Maybelline website, they don't even sell this anymore, yuck.

The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream - The moisturizer was fabulous for my skin last winter, but I made the mistake of continuing to use it through the spring, into the hotter months. I would not recommend people with oily skin use this, but it is a great product, and I would repurchase if I struggle with dry patches again this winter.

Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Intense Black - This felt tip pen has a very long thin point. I loved using this for nights out, because I knew it wouldn't budge. But, the tip started to fray a bit near the end, making the line not as sharp as I wanted, the formula was getting a bit streaky, so I think it expired. I would repurchase in the future, but not right now.

What products have you used up lately? Tweet me @emilynmax to tell me.

October Favourites

October was a very stressful month for me and I'm glad it's over. However, this month ended on a good note with Halloween. I'm not super into Halloween but I always enjoy getting Maxwell ready in his costume, and going trick-or-treating with him. You can see his costume on my Instagram (@emilynmax, links in the sidebar). I didn't dress up this year, but let me know in the comments what you went as if you dressed up.

Dove Invigorating Dry Shampoo - This dry shampoo has quickly become a favourite. I find myself reaching for this over my Batiste almost every time. It is more lightweight than Batiste; I cannot feel it in my hair through the day, yet it refreshes my hair just as well. I also really love the scent, it's very fresh and clean, much like Dove soap.

Nail Tek Intensive Therapy - My nails have been peeling again this past month, as they were about a year ago. I rediscovered this nail treatment in my stash, which is formulated for soft, peeling nails. I apply this consistently for a week or two and my nails are strong, and not peeling anymore. This stuff is awesome!

Kate Somerville ExfoliKate - This intensive exfoliating treatment is so effective at removing dead skin cells, and smoothing my skin. I can only use this once every few weeks because I have sensitive skin, and it is quite abrasive, but it works. It smells kind of like licorice maybe, not a fan of the scent. Your skin may starts to tingle and turn red using this product, but it goes away soon after rinsing it off. One other thing, this product is so expensive! The small bottle I have pictured about is $27!!

MAC Lip Pencil in Whirl - MAC lip pencils are not my favourite formula wise, as far as wooden lip pencils go I prefer Essence way more, and they're like $3. However, I have been using Whirl non-stop all month. It has just been the perfect shade to wear alone, to line my lips before going in with a dark vampy lipstick, or even just layering with other lip products. The dirty rose shade is just so flattering.

Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black Perfume -  This perfume is my fall scent, I love it so much. As soon as the weather gets colder, I'm wearing this all the time. With notes of violet, sandalwood, and vanilla it is a musky and sexy fragrance. When I get through this roller ball, I will be purchasing the full-size!

What products have you been loving throughout the month of October?

Drugstore Haul | October 2015

Much like the items in my last haul, these have been waiting around for awhile. I've been picking these up here and there for the last month, and am pretty happy with the items I've used so far!

The two nail polish purchases are heavily inspired by Kathleen Lights. OPI in It's a Piazza Cake from the fall Venice collection is the nail polish version of Ofra liquid lipstick in Miami Fever, which I also have and love. Essie in Leggy Legend, also from their fall 2015 collection, is a beautiful metallic bronze with a bit of gold and green reflects. Both polishes are stunning for fall, and all I've been wearing on my nails.

Zoe Sugg wore this lipstick in a vlog not too long ago and it looked incredible! Revlon Super Lustrous lipstick in Black Cherry is a beautiful blacken cherry colour. It is super bold, but gorgeous for this time of year.

I 'needed' to add a nude eyeliner to my collection, as I didn't have anything brightening to add to my waterline. Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in 005 Nude will be the perfect item.

I actually picked up this by mistake. The L'Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black Mascara will be great for adding a ton of volume, and has a bristle brush that I like. However, I'd actually meant to pick up L'Oreal Telescopic Carbon Black, but was in a rush. Rookie mistake, but I will still use this, it just does a completely different job than the other.

I am always trying new dry shampoos. But, I do always need to have at least one bottle of Batiste on the go, just in case another doesn't work so great. It has definitely been my holy grail. This is the first time I've tried the Blush scent, and it's not too floral-y. It has to be my second favourite scent so far, after the Wild one.

Now, I haven't used the Dove Invigorating Dry Shampoo enough to be 100% sure, but, we may have a viable contender to over take Batiste. I am loving this product, and am super impressed! It is also $5 cheaper. I may do a full review so I won't go into too much detail right now. But be sure to follow this blog to come back for an update.

Last but not least, I bought two neutral Wet n Wild eyeshadow palettes. On the left we have Walking on Eggshells. This is a classic, super easy for an everyday eye look. The colours are clearly marked to beginners. And the classic neutral look would pair perfectly with a fall appropriate bold lip. On the right is Comfort Zone. The left side is more warm, again an easy everyday look. The right is smokier, great for a night out. Or you could of course mix the two sides as you see fit.

What have you bought from the drugstore recently?

Autumn Beauty Wishlist

These are the top five beauty items I'd like to add to my collection this season. The last few months, I've been focused on face and lip products and am pretty happy with my collection in those departments. This fall I'd like to add more eye products to my arsenal.

Mac Warm Neutral Eyeshadow Palette - I don't own any Mac shadows, but everyone says they're amazing. I was going to build my own 15 pan palette, but it's cheaper to buy the ready-made palette. Also, this warm neutral one has all the colours I love, there isn't one I wouldn't use. So yes, I'd be losing the customizability, but I'm okay with that if I like all the shades, which I do with this one. I love warm shadows year round, but especially in the autumn.

Philosophy Purity Made Simple Cleanser - Once the cooler months come around I prefer to use more gentle cleansers to prevent my skin from drying out too much. I've used samples of this particular cleanser, and have liked it. My skin is still oily in the fall/ winter, but I sometimes get dry patches on my cheeks caused by my more 'stripping' cleansers.

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara - People have been talking about this mascara for months. I hadn't gotten it earlier because I've been working my way through my stash, but it's time for something new to try. I'm usually a drugstore mascara gal, but this looks worth the splurge.

L'Oreal Brow Artist Plumper - I love a good brow gel, add in some 'plumping' fibres, seems like a winner. I love low-maintenance brow products when I'm in a rush.

Jessie's Girl Eyeshadow Primer - Kathleen Light's is always saying how great this is. I have quite oily eye lids and am curious how well this will hold up. Also, it's super affordable!

What is on your autumn beauty wishlist?

Skincare Overhaul | Part 2

Happy Saturday!

It is finally time for the second installment of my skincare overhaul/ journey. You can read the first post here, where you can read more about my early years skincare woes, and gain a better understanding of the changes occurring.

To recap slightly, after introducing the previous five skincare products into my routine, my skin was more oily, less dehydrated, mild milia, reduced scarring, reduced appearance of fine lines, when compared to before the start of this journey.

Here are the next five products that have been added into my routine since my last post.

Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask - I have used this mask three or four times now, and don't really feel like it does much, I don't notice a difference in my pores. Thoughts?

Origins GinZing Energy-Boosting Moisturizer - This product is amazing! My skin has been less oily throughout the day since using this. It smells like orange candies or something. It's awakening and refreshing on the skin.

Clinique Acne Solutions Clarifying Lotion - I believe this product has made the biggest change in my acne out of everything I've ever tried. Since adding this to my routine, I don't have any active breakouts except during 'that time of the month'. This has already been featured in a favourites post. I use this every second night if my skin is 'clear', and every night when I have a breakout. It is a salicylic acid toner, and does leave my skin quite red, but it goes away once I've finished my skincare routine.

Fresh Black Tea Age-Delay Instant Infusion Treatment Toner - I alternate this product with the Clinique one, as mentioned above. The product is in a lovely heavy glass bottle. The next morning after using this my skin is more radiant, and smooth. This product claims to do a lot, and so far I am impressed my this. I may post a full review soon. So far, it is worth the hefty price tag.

La Roche-Posay Anthelios Ultra Light - If there was one area that my skincare was seriously lacking, it was SPF. With my oily skin, I need something that will not leave me looking like a greasy mess after application, which all others I've tried did. Before I would only put SPF on my face on beach days, or when it was in my foundation. This product sinks into the skin so quickly, and doesn't leave my skin greasy. The light weight formula allows makeup to glide over the top easily.

Since integrating these products into my routine, my skin is now less oily, fewer breakouts, and more redness.

My skincare journey is far from over but I will continue to share the new products I'm trying out here on the blog. Please leave your recommendations in the comments. Also, if you'd like a more comprehensive review on any of these products, I'd be more than happy to do that for you.

Ipsy October 2015 Unboxing

This month's theme is Alter Ego; Dare to be Different.

The bag this month... I hate it. Is hate too strong a word? I strongly dislike this month's bag. One side is a metallic gold, the other and patent leather looking black. It's an odd shape to be useful. It feels cheap (more than usual), and plastic-y. I'm just not a fan.

Emite Make Up Tweezers - I love getting tools in my Ipsy back, whether it's a brush, or tweezers. These seem to be very good quality, they have a nice weight to them, and a sharp point. Everyone can use a good set of tweezers.

The Balm Meet Matt(e) Hughes Long-lasting Liquid Lipstick in Committed - I am super happy with this product. Kathleen Lights, and Casey Holmes both recently talked about this particular shade. It looks like the perfect everyday shade for fall. It smells like mint chocolate chip to me, but the website said it's supposed to smell like vanilla mint.

Laura Geller Baked Blush N Brighten in Tropic Hues - Another great brand! This shade looks quite dark in the pan, but swatched it's a nice peach-y rosy shade with a nice glow to it. I'm super happy with this product as well.

Delectable Ultra Nourishing Hand Cream in Coconut & Cream - This time of year, is the time I break out ALL the hand creams haha. My hands get super dry when the seasons change to fall and winter. Bonus - this product is made in Canada! This smells sooo good! Exactly coconut and cream. Hopefully it's nice and moisturizing as well, it does say 'indisputably effective' on the back.

Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion Skin Exfoliant - Yet another awesome brand! I do love a good exfoliator. I have sensitive skin though, so I'm hoping this product isn't too abrasive.

Wow, I am super happy with this month's bag if you haven't gathered. Last month, I had said I was considering cancelling, but didn't because last months was good too, so Ipsy is making a comeback apparently. I'm happy with everything in the bag, just not the bag itself. There were 3 well known, high-end brands this month which doesn't usually happen either.

What did you get in your Ipsy bag this month?

ColourPop Forever Freshman | Fall 2015 Collection

ColourPop has released their 90s inspired, throwback fall collection, and I knew I had to have the eye shadow boxed set. The colours in here all so fall appropriate, but you can get a lot of use out of these shades year round.

Top to Bottom: Crimper, As If, Melrose

Top to Bottom: Koosh, 90210, Baby T

Colour Descriptions:
Crimper - Metallic soft gold with gold glitter
As If - Matte cool toned taupe-y brown
Melrose - Matte pumpkin spice/ rust
Koosh - Ultra metallic rose gold
90210 -Satin luxe dark taupe with intense pink and gold glitter
Baby T -  Matte navy

ColourPop shadows have a mousse-y texture, or maybe a cream-to-powder feeling, but do not crease. The staying power of these shadows are amazing, I have oily lids, and do not need a primer using these. I prefer to apply these shadows with my fingers, and then blending with a brush.

With this set, you can take it the everyday route, ultra warm, or even a cool-toned evening look. My top two from this box set is Melrose, and Koosh.

If you've never tried ColourPop shadows before, I think picking up a boxed set would give you a great variety of finishes and shades to experiment with.

If you are interested in getting this box set, I'd hurry. ColourPop seems to have a high turnover in their product mix, and collections don't last long. You can get it HERE. It is only $30! The quality of these are great, and the price is extremely affordable.

What do you want to purchase from their Fall 2015 Collection?

Sephora Haul | October 2015

These products have been sitting in a box, unopened for over a month because I usually wait until I have five new products to share. I know, that's ridiculous, because then I don't get to use my new products, but I'd like to take photos before they're used. However, I couldn't wait any longer to use the fall lip products!

Cinema Secrets Makeup Brush Cleanser - I needed something to spot clean my brushes, so I picked up this little spray bottle. It's great for people like me that don't have too many eye brushes, so I can easily switch colours.

Smashbox Photo Finish Pore Minimizing Primer - Casey Holmes always talks about how great this is for oily skin, combined with the Smashbox Primer Water, which I own. I'm excited to see how well this combo works.

Top: Too Faced Melted Fig
Bottom: Bite Beauty Sugared Maple

Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick in Fig - This rosy orchid shade is beautiful! This shade would be perfect for those of you that want to dip your toes into the darker, purple lip colours, but perhaps aren't brave enough to go all the way. I picked it up as more of an 'everyday' fall shade, not as bold as Rimmel Kate Moss 107.

Bite Beauty Maple Matte Crème Lipstick in Sugared Maple - This range is a Canadian exclusive, and limited edition. They are handmade in Toronto with natural, food grade, organic ingredients. The shade are designed with the changing leaves in mind. They don't swatch the colour they appear in the tube, as you can see Sugared Maple looks to be a super dark purple, but is a mid-tone berry shade on my arm. They taste and smell of maple syrup - YES!! These are also super long-wearing, the swatch was visible on my arm for a week.

September Favourites

September was a month of adjustments. I went back to university full-time for my fourth year. I have been juggling work, school, blog, and motherhood, all while remaining mostly sane! September has been a great month overall, I've discovered a ton of great products, my skin is mostly under control, knock on wood, and I've been killing the dark lip trend. September is my favourite month of the year, and am sad to say goodbye for another year, but with any luck October will be great too! Side note: I still need to decide on Halloween costumes for myself and Maxwell.

Clinique Acne Solutions Clarifying Lotion - This acid toner has done wonders for my skin! Besides 'that time of the month', I have had no active breakouts. It is a bit harsh, so I only use it every other day if my skin is behaving to maintain clear skin, and everyday to combat a breakout. I will dive into more details in an upcoming skincare post.

Makeup Geek Eyeshadows in Cocoa Bear and Crème Brulee - I've posted a first impressions and swatches post including these shadows, and have been using them ever since. The formula is so smooth and blendable. I've been wear Crème Brulee all over the lid, with Cocoa Bear in the crease for an everyday ultra warm look, perfect for fall.

Rimmel Kate Moss Lipstick in 107 - I bought this lipstick because of Zoe Sugg, and am not disappointed. This shade is the perfect deep red, cool tone, blue based, with a purple twist. It wears well, even through eating and drinking. The matte formula is a bit drying but I look past it for the longevity of the product, and drying lip products don't tend to bother me too much.

Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Bronzer in Park Ave Princess - I've been using bronzers with a tiny amount of shimmer in it, to liven up my skin again, especially because the slight tan I may have had is definitely gone. I've been reaching for this one all month, because of the slightly cool undertone. It appears less obvious, and keeps it from getting muddy looking. I also have the non-waterproof version of this bronzer, and I'm not sure why but it is more warm than this and has more shimmer, even though they have the same shade name. Anyone else notice this?

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge - I've been loving this for applying my Too Faced Born This Way foundation. It blends it seamlessly onto my skin, and keeps it from looking heavy.

Review | COLAB Dry Shampoo

If you saw my most recent drugstore haul post, you'd know I decided to cheat on my beloved Batiste, and try a new dry shampoo. So I picked up the COLAB dry shampoo in Rio, which is in the tropical scent.

Claims

"Keep that clean hair feel for longer & instantly revitalise your look with COLAB's ready-to-wear dry shampoo. It absorbs oil & refreshes roots with a residue-free, lightweight finish & leaves a veil of fashion fragrance."
Product Overview

This is going to basically be a comparison to my favourite dry shampoo - Batiste.

I would agree with the claims listed above, with the exception of oil absorption. It does absorb some, but not near as much as Batiste. If your hair is actually feeling/ looking greasy, this product will not be the solution you need.

In my opinion, I feel this product would be great to refresh your hair, but not necessarily to extend the time between shampoos. It adds a small amount of volume, which I like, especially after sleeping on your hair, it just brings the style back to life a bit.

The tropical scent is refreshing, not overpowering, which is how I feel about the Batiste tropical scent, and doesn't linger the whole day.

The formula is much lighter than Batiste, I cannot feel this sitting on my scalp, which is great.

I will continue to use this product to refresh my hairstyle at the end of the day, or after sleeping on it. However, I will be buying Batiste ASAP for the purpose of extending the time between shampoos.

Hope this review was helpful. What is your favourite dry shampoo?

Autumn Style Wishlist

After looking through my closet, and watching a ton of fall fashion haul on YouTube, I have come up with the top 5 items I would like to add to my wardrobe this season.

Daniel Wellington Classic Sheffield Watch - This watch is classic, and not too flashy. I love the rose gold, simple face, and black leather strap. A watch of this style and quality would work for me for many years so it's worth the splurge.

Zara Riding Boot in Taupe - Casey Holmes hauled these boots and I fell in love. I have wanted a flat riding boot for awhile, but haven't found a pair that I loved as much as these. I was originally looking for a medium brown leather, but I think these will look much more unique, yet still versatile.

Le Chateau Leather-Like Motorcycle Jacket in Black - I've bought a leather jacket from Le Chateau before, and wore it for many years before it started falling apart. I'm sure the quality of the faux leather won't be the same as the real leather, but at the same time, this one is cheaper. A great staple piece to have in your wardrobe, and it's about time I replace mine.

Forever 21 Chiffon Pocket Blouse in Cream - A classic button down is another staple to have in your wardrobe, it will go with anything. Surprisingly, I do not own one already.

RW & Co 'Tuesday Look' - This look pairs a fitted blazer, and a slim leg pant. I need a few more corporate pieces in my wardrobe, and I feel that this suit is modern, youthful and still professional. It will be a great addition to my work wear, and I will be able to mix and match easily as well.

What is on your autumn style wishlist?

Ipsy September 2015 Unboxing

Sorry this post is coming later than usual, I just received my bag Friday and am just getting a chance to sit down and blog now. But hopefully you're still interested in seeing what I got in my bag.

This month's theme is Face Fashion, with the beautiful Katy (LustreLux) on the front of the card.

The bag is cute for fall. I love the textured front part, and the metallic finish. It's also a good size, long enough to put in brushes for travelling.

Trèstique Matte Lip Crayon in Nantucket Nude - This peach-y nude would look great on fair skin-tones. I haven't tried it on yet, but it is very pale..

Not Soap Radio Liquid Freud Hand/ Body Lotion - The coconut milk, mango and vanilla scent is heavenly! The description on the back it also cute, unlike typical packaging. I hope this is moisturizing, not just nice smelling.

Ipsy NYX Shadow Palette #1 - These colours are great for fall! I shimmer gold, and copper and a matte black. I'm a fan of NYX products, so I have high hopes.

Formula X Nail Polish in Ignite - A great dark red, which I already have the full size of and love, so I will be passing this on to a friend.

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream - This is almost a cult favourite. I do not have dry skin usually, but having this product coming into the harsh east coast winter will be good. Also a great brand to be receiving in this bag.

This month's bag was great! The last few months have been meh good, but nothing spectacular. I was considering cancelling to be honest. But after this month, I will continue with it for a few more. The only negative, is that I received two lotion products, both are great, but there could have been more variety.

What did you get in your Ipsy this month?

Review | Maybelline Fit Me Concealer

Top: 15 Fair, Bottom: 10 Light

The Maybelline Fit Me concealer has been my number one for under the eyes for a few months now, and I'm going to share my full thoughts on it with you today.

This product is non-comedogenic, dermatologist-tested, ophthalmologist-tested, and fragrance-free.

Claims

"Natural coverage that leaves skin the way it was meant to be…fresh, breathing, natural"

Product Overview

This concealer has a light weight, blendable formula, never appearing cakey. It doesn't crease if it is set with a powder. The finish is quite dewy on it's own so this is another reason I set it with powder as I have oily skin and don't want that finish under my eyes.

It is available in six different shades, of which I have two, and has different under tones available, which you can see in the picture below.

The applicator is good, a standard doe-foot that deposits the right amount of product. The packaging is sleek and basic.

Left: 10 Light (orange undertone) Right: 15 Fair (pink undertone)

Thoughts

As I said above, this concealer is my number one for under the eyes, for which I use the shade 15 Fair. Because of the pink undertones, I feel it cancels out some of my dark circles.

I also use this product for some basic highlighting; down the nose, chin, on the forehead, and drug out past the under eyes to the cheekbones.

This concealer is not full coverage, but is great for everyday, especially because of the light weight formula.

I bought the shade 10 Light thinking it would be great for blemishes because it matches my skin tone better with the more orange undertones, but because of the dewy formula, I just find it moves around too much for this purpose. It is also too light weight to cover any dark spots on my skin. I do use this shade for under my eyes on more basic makeup days.

Does anyone else find it strange that 15 Fair is lighter than 10 Light? Yes, the names are in the right order, but the numbers aren't, in my mind. Just me?

What is your favourite concealer at the moment?

Drugstore Haul | September 2015

It has been over a month since my last haul post, so I thought it was about time to share with you what I've been picking up from the drugstore since then.

I have also discovered, in the back of my closet, a couple new photo backdrops, please let me know what you think of this one in the comments.

Revlon Nail Polish in 725 Provocative - I love the formula of these polishes, and didn't have a orange-y red (more orange) in my collection. This polish is kind of like my last tribute to summer, and have been wearing it as much as possible until breaking out the dark and neutral colours.

Maybelline ColorSensational Color Elixir in 085 Hibiscus Haven - I saw this shade on Kristi's blog - Be Loverly (post here) awhile ago. Already knowing I love the shade I have, I wanted to pick up another, and this one was on clearance for $4.39, what a bargain!

Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss Lipstick in 01 - These lipsticks are my number one from the drugstore! The only reds I have are matte, and I felt I "needed" a creamier formula as well. This just seems to be a great classic red, and in a formula I love.

Real Techniques Stippling Brush - I needed a better brush for cream blush. My other stippling brush picked up too much product, and was too flimsy. This one is much denser, and I've seen a few YouTuber's use it for just this purpose, though I haven't used it yet.

Real Techniques Setting Brush - I don't doubt this would be a great brush for setting concealer, but I intend on using it for highlight. It's not too dense, and has a tapered point, which will fit nicely on my cheekbones.

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge - I do not own a Beauty Blender, but want one. So I thought I'd dip my toes in the makeup sponge application world with this one. I realize it will not be as good, but know it's a good product nonetheless and am excited to try it.

Can you tell there was a sale on Real Techniques? *wink*

CoLab Dry Shampoo in Rio - I have stepped away from Batiste for a moment, and am trying a new dry shampoo, I know, I know, I didn't think this day would come either. I like this tropical scent much more than Batiste's one, it's less potent. I've heard Suzie (Hello October) mention she prefers this when applied overnight, without rubbing it in, so I will try that.

Review | OGX Weightless Hydration Coconut Water Shampoo and Conditioner

These products are sulfate free, not tested on animals, and the packaging is eco-friendly.

Claims

'Drench your dehydrated strands in this ultra-light blend of weightless hydrating coconut water, supercharged with nutrient rich electrolytes and combined with coconut oil to transform dry, parched hair into silky shiny perfection.'

My Hair

I believe knowing about my particular hair, will make this review more relevant to you. If your hair is unlike mine, this product may work differently for you.

My hair is quite oily, colour treated through the ends. It is fine, yet there is a lot of it, if that makes sense.

Thoughts

I usually don't get on well with sulfate free shampoos and conditions, but I bought this after Zoe Sugg (Zoella), and a few other bloggers/ vloggers recommended this. If you read my skincare overhaul post, you'd know that my skin is super oily, yet dehydrated, so I thought the same may be true for my scalp. I was also hoping it would help with my dry ends, where it has been bleached, and dyed multiple times.

These products smell amazing! It does smell of coconuts (obviously), but it's not over powering.

The shampoo doesn't really lather up (because it's sulfate free), and didn't leave my hair feeling clean. My hair would be oily again in less than 24 hours.

The conditioner left my hair feeling weighed down, which I was particularly displeased about because the name of the product is 'weightless'. It almost felt as if I hadn't rinsed it out properly, but after using this set five times (just trying to like it), I realized that was not the case.

My hair looked shiny after using this product, but in a greasy way, not a healthy way.

So overall, I'm not impressed, and would not recommend this product if you have hair like mine. They may work if you wash your hair everyday (I do not), or if your scalp is not oily, though I can't really speak to that. Please let me know if you've had a different experience using these products in the comments below.

Empties | Products I've Used Up | 3

Since my last empties post, I've decided to try to do one monthly, if I have enough products to share with you.

Skincare

Lush Tea Tree Water Toner - I only used about 2/3 of this product, but it has expired. I thought this was a great toner for my acne prone skin, but not for everyday as it can be a bit drying. I won't be repurchasing anytime soon as I'm trying out a few others.

The Body Shop Seaweed Ionic Clay Mask - Another product I didn't get to finish completely, but it has dried up. It was time for it to go anyway because I've had it for about a year and a half. This mask worked great to draw everything from my pores, also great as a spot treatment to leave on overnight.

First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads - This was featured in my Skincare Overhaul post. This is a great acid toner, gentle enough to use twice daily and didn't irritate my skin.

Makeup

Sei Bella Creme-to-Powder Foundation - Elle Fowler's first Makeup Declutter video inspired me to look through my foundations and concealers and throw away what products were over a year old. This is the one foundation that was past its date. It is so old I don't even remember if I liked it or not - must not have made an impression.

Benefit They're Real Mascara - I love how my lashes looked when using this mascara! However, the struggle of taking it off wasn't quite worth it. I have other mascaras I love just as much, if not more, that don't take two days to remove.

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Fast Dry Nail Polish in 320 Co-Bolt Blue - This is a great dark blue polish. Very shiny and fast drying. I like this line of polishes a lot, this one has gotten all clumpy though, which is not a negative - I've had it for probably 4 years and it's just gone bad now.

Melaleuca Sun Shades Lip Balm plus Sunscreen in Key Lime Pie - This lip balm is hydrating, and has SPF 15 which is great. Do not forget to apply SPF to your lips!

Body

Equate Moisturizing Shave Gel in Raspberry - Not a huge fan of the scent, but it doesn't linger. This shave gel was moisturizing and got the job done. For a store brand, it's pretty great - just as good as the name brands.

The Body Shop Almond Body Butter - The Body Shop's body butters are my favourite, I especially love the nut scents. I will repurchase, but have four other scents to use before I buy more. I didn't see the almond scent on the website, has it been discontinued?
