ColourPop Haul and Review

When I heard that Kathleen Lights, who is my favourite YouTuber of the moment, was coming out with a foursome collaboration with ColourPop, I knew I wanted to get it.

I purchased both her Where The Light Is foursome, and her lippie stix and pencil in Lumière. I also bought the lippie stix and pencil in Frida, which was an older collaboration with CoffeeBreakwithDani, another YouTuber I enjoy watching.

The foursome was $20, which I think is a fair price considering their individual shadows are $5 each. Each lippie stix and pencil were $5. In my opinion, these are great prices, even better than many brands at the drugstore, with a great quality product.

ColourPop Super Shock shadows have the strangest texture. They are somewhere between a cream and a mousse. It also says on the box to ensure you are closing the lids tightly so they don't dry out.

This foursome is very warm toned, which is what I prefer, at least right now.

The packaging is beautiful, which the metallic design, and the quote that means so much to Kathleen herself.

As you can see from the picture, one of my shadows did get smashed during shipping, but because of their texture I decided not to return it because it will still work the same, I just patted it back into place as best I could.

The first shadow is Blaze, which has a metallic finish. This is similar to the Mac shadow Texture. This has a ton of glitter, and comes off a bit green in the swatch.

Second, Kathleen Lights, which has a pearlized finish. This is Kathleen's personal favourite from the foursome. It is a 'dupe' for the Mac shadow Amber Lights, though it is more intense.

The last two shades are both matte, the warm brown is called Cornelious, after her favourite dog.  This shadow is buildable so you can easily deepen the colour if you wanted.

The highlight shade is called Glow, which was pretty much impossible to photograph, as you can tell. This shade will be gorgeous as a brow highlight, or even in the inner corner if you didn't want it to be shimmery. This shade will not suit every skin tone, so keep that in mind.

Here are the Lippie Stix and Lippie Pencils. How cute are the names of their lip products?
Lumière is another collaboration between Kathleen Lights and ColourPop. The name combines two of her favourite things, Paris and lights. This shade will suit everyone, and every makeup look. It is a great matte, darker mauve colour. This is a colour dupe (not formula) for the Nars Audacious lipstick in Anna, which is a $37 lipstick, this is $5.. need I say more?

Frida, as mentioned before, is a collaboration with CoffeeBreakwithDani. This colour is very hard to describe, it's a bit pink, peach, orange, nude, but not? and is a satin finish. I cannot wait to wear these all summer long, if summer ever shows up for those of us on the East Coast.

Have you guys tried any ColourPop products?

Sally Hansen Lacey Lilac

Every spring I wear this polish to death.

Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme wear in 270 Lacey Lilac is just as the name would suggest; it is a beautiful light lilac colour.

I shook the bottle up quite well for the picture so you can't really tell, but there is a significant amount gone, about a centimetre. I'd say that's pretty impressive for a nail polish!

I really like the formula of these polishes, and have quite a few in my 'collection' (if you could even call it that). Also, you can often find them on sale at your drugstore for ~$1.99; can't beat that!

Do you have a nail polish that you wear a lot during one time of the year?

The Body Shop Fuji Green Tea

I was quite intrigued by The Body Shop's release of the Fuji Green Tea range, mostly because of the Bath Tea. It seemed like a strange concept, that as the bath lover I am, I just had to try it.

The bath tea itself is essentially bath salts mixed with real green tea leaves. The scent is truly wonderful, I felt so relaxed.
You have to buy the Fuji Green Tea bath infuser separately for $5, which is kind of annoying. You put a scoop of the bath tea in it and let it 'brew' in your warm bath. The infuser allows the bath salts to dissolve into your bath, while holding onto the tea leaves so your bathtub doesn't get messy.

If you don't like baths, but enjoy green tea scents, you can still pick up something from the range, there is something for everyone. They also released more of their usual line up, like body butter, lotion, perfume, etc.
I also picked up the Fuji Green Tea body scrub. Again, it smells amazing, and is quite gentle, yet effective for removing all the dead skin cells.

Are you going to buy any of the Fuji Green Tea products?

The Best of Me

Every time another Nicholas Sparks book becomes a movie and hits theatres, I always get excited. I cannot wait to go see The Longest Ride.

I had just finished my last City of Bones book, which I mentioned in my Bedtime Tag post, and was looking for another book when I noticed The Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks sitting there on my bookshelf unread and unloved. [This was also made into a movie last year, which I haven't seen yet.]

(Source)

So with Nicholas Sparks on my mind and the anticipation of seeing The Longest Ride, it seemed the natural choice, also I want to read all the books I own at least once.

So far it is really good (I'm only on page 59), as all Nicholas Sparks books are. I'm usually not the one for love stories, but I love all the ones of his I've read so far. I usually go for more of the ever so popular dystopian, think Divergent, Hunger Games, or fantasy-ish, like Harry Potter, Eragon, Lord of the Rings genres, but it's nice to switch it up!

A Week of Favourites

So, I thought every once in a while I'd throw together a few items that I've been loving for the past week and share it with you guys. So, let me know if you want me to continue to do this.

Mascara: Too Faced Better Than Sex - I have a sample size of this mascara that I've been using all week. It provides the perfect amount of volume in my opinion. And I love the bristle wand, as opposed to a plastic one. I will definitely buy the full size when this is done.

Lip Combo: Essence lip liner in 11 In The Nude, Cargo lip gloss in Anguilla - I line and fill in my lips completely with the liner, then apply the gloss on top. It is a great pink-y nude lip for everyday. The gloss isn't too sticky and provides the perfect amount of pink. The colour lasts a long time, mostly due to the liner.

Yoga Pants:  Always leggings - I love the crazy print on these leggings! Much to Jeremy's dismay I will even wear these out in public with a neutral top and my black Hunter boots. They fit me well, hold everything in doing the downward dog (they're quite high-rise), and are super soft on the skin. I got mine as a gift for my birthday, but I believe they were bought at a 'leggings party' I think the brand is sold Scentsy style, but I could be wrong.

Snack: Cheddar Jalapeno Cheetos - these are to die for if you like spicy snacks. I can't get enough!

YouTuber: Kathleen Lights - She is so lovable! I feel that we could be best friends in real life, is that silly? We have the same sense on humour, and I crack up every time she says "Das esspensive" because I feel the same! She does the most beautiful tutorials, and has just released a foursome with ColourPop which I've purchased along with some other products which I will post about when they arrive. Go check out her channel if you haven't already.

Hair Training

I'm sure we all know by now that washing your hair everyday is not good for it. However, up until the last month or two I continued to do it. I have always had oily hair, and I felt that washing my hair everyday was a necessity or else it as a greasy mess.

Washing your hair everyday strips your hair of its natural oils, and can also dry out your scalp. This in turn ques your scalp to produce more oil to replenish it. And viola, you have greasy hair again. I have written a post before on how irritated my scalp was, and how my hair was falling out more than it should have been. I now know this was also a contributing factor.

I finally bit the bullet, and have started 'hair training'; forcing myself to wash my hair every two days (unless I had an important meeting or interview I had to look nice for), and my  hair looks and feels so much healthier.

It has been a rough road, and Batiste dry shampoo, and messy buns have become my best friends, but I see the light at the end of the tunnel. My hair now almost makes it to the 48 hour mark before it really does need to be washed again. I'm hoping to eventually get it to 3 or 4 days between shampoos but that seems almost impossible with still being able to go out in public.

How many days between shampoos do you typically go?

We Are All Beautiful!

I always skip the ads that play before/ during YouTube videos.

Today I got distracted, and I'm so glad I did because the commercial that played was so powerful!

I'm talking about the Dove Choose Beautiful commercial.

After watching this I was left with tears in my eyes, and a feeling of empowerment like I haven't felt in a very long time.

Women (and men) are made to feel average on a daily basis, it just seems to be the way it is - BUT IT SHOULDN'T BE!!

We are all beautiful! You should never be made to feel anything but that.

Know your worth.

Wear that lipstick that you love, even if it's not a colour that's "trendy" at the moment.

Wear those yoga pants outside of the gym if that's what makes you feel confident.

You feel beautiful with bright orange hair? Go dye it! Who cares what that lady across the street thinks?

We need to start focusing on what makes us FEEL beautiful, not what that guy (or girl) in your class thinks is beautiful.

Most importantly, ALLOW yourself to feel beautiful! Sometimes we may feel guilty, or perhaps vain for feeling that way, but you shouldn't!

You do you!

What did you think of the commercial?

Which door would you have went through?

Drugstore Haul

Not that I need an excuse to shop but, Shopper's Drug Mart was advertising their spend $75 get $25 worth of Optimum Points 'sale', 'event', I'm not sure what you'd call it. I think this is a pretty good deal, especially because I shop there quite a lot and collect the points anyway.

Along with Easter chocolates for Max, I bought a few makeup items for myself, which were all on sale this week as well!

First, I picked up a backup of my Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes. These are my favourite makeup wipes because they are super gentle on my sensitive skin, and also do a great job of removing swatches on the backs of my hands.

I had gotten a foil packet sample of the L'Oreal Youth Code BB Cream and really liked it so when I saw that it was 30% off plus the added 'sale' going on I decided to pick it up. It's pretty expensive for a drugstore BB cream so I don't think I would have picked it up otherwise. I picked up the colour Light.

Next, I grabbed a Rimmel Lasting Finish Soft Colour Blush in 150 Live Pink. This is just another standard peachy pink blush with shimmer in it. I have quite a lot of these in my collection now that I'm looking at it, it's not a conscious thing though. Apparently I need to be a bit more creative in the blush department.

For eyeshadow, I bought a L'Oreal Infallible one in the shade 002 Hourglass Beige, pretty standard. It is a light iridescent colour, perfect for all over the lid.

I bought two eyeliners, the first being the L'Oreal Infallible Smokeissime powder eyeliner pen in 701 Black. I've been loving the smoked out liner look lately and thought this product would make it so much easier. I also got the L'Oreal Silkissime eyeliner in black, just a standard black liner, but it's super creamy and easy to apply. It's also very black, and it was hard to remove from my hand so I'm hoping it's long lasting on the lashline as well.

Can you tell, L'Oreal was having a sale?

Lastly, two lip products. First is a CoverGirl lipstick in 255 Tempting Toffee. I haven't worn this yet but it swatched really nicely. It's a nice brown nude shade, which I've been loving recently. I also bought the Rimmel Exaggerate Full Colour lip liner in 032 Innocent. This was actually a mistake, I meant to pick up the colour Natural, however I will be keeping this because like I said, I've been loving the brown nude colours. This will probably look good under the CoverGirl lipstick actually. I also already know I like the formula because I have other shades from the Exaggerate range.

What should I pick up next time I'm at the drugstore?

I'm Shedding Again!

They say you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone, boy is that true.

A few months ago my hair shed so bad, in the shower I'd lose handfuls! I also noticed that my scalp was becoming quite itchy and irritated, and my hair was lacking volume.

I didn't even consider it could have been the shampoo I was using, Herbal Essences Long Term Relationship, I had blamed it on the dry winter air.

While browsing the hair care aisle I came across the Clear Scalp & Hair Beauty Therapy Volumizing Root Boost shampoo and conditioner. My prayers had been answered!

This stuff is amazing! I immediately noticed my scalp wasn't as irritated, and my hair had more volume. The one thing I hadn't taken notice of was my shedding situation, I had completely forgotten it was even an issue.

Fast forward to this week when I ran out of the shampoo but not the conditioner. (Side note: do you run out of shampoo or conditioner first?) Having forgotten about my previous problems, I just grabbed my other shampoo off the shelf to use until I ran out of the conditioner as well, then I'd go buy something else.

What a huge mistake that was. After two shampoos my hair was falling out by the handful all over again. I guess now I know what the culprit was, in the garbage you go.

I went and purchased more of the Clear Scalp & Hair Beauty Therapy shampoo and conditioner, this time in Total Care.

What is your favourite and least favourite shampoos/conditioners?
