Drugstore Haul | May 2015

Today I'm going to share with you my most recent purchases from the drugstore I've made throughout the month of May, as well as two items from Marshalls.
The two 3x3 lipstick holder's are the items I bought from Marshalls for $4.99 each. I thought this was a great deal because I've been looking at a 24 piece off Amazon for $20. I will definitely pick up another if I see them again but as I'm sure you know with those stores if you don't grab it when you see it, it probably won't be there when you go back.

The next thing I bought was the Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara. I still have yet to use this as I have about four others on the go right now. (Don't judge me ;). ) I got this for $8.99 from Lawtons Drugs.

The two lipsticks I bought were Revlon Lip Butter in 055 Cupcake (left), and Rimmel Moisture Renew in 127 Pink Chic (right). Cupcake is a very light pink, which will look great with a tan this summer! The formula of the lip butters are fantastic, I wear the other one I own, pink, truffle, all the time. They're light and creamy on the lips. This was $8.39 at Lawtons Drugs. Pink Chic is your everyday neutral pink shade - super wearable. The formula is moisturizing as the name would suggest. This was $6.98 from Walmart. I will be getting a lot of wear out of both of these lipsticks!

Next, the two blushes I bought were the Revlon powder blushes in 001 Oh Baby! Pink (left) and 006 Naughty Nude (right). I bought these because Kathleen Lights had them in her April Favourites video and I of course feel inclined to buy anything she recommends. Both these blushes are very glowy and natural on the skin, which is what I look for in the summer months especially. These were $10.39 at Lawtons Drugs.

Last but not least, I picked up the Maybelline Fit Me concealer in 15 Fair. I had run out of one of my concealers and this was at the top of my drugstore to-try list. The formula is pigmented and creamy; so far I'm loving it. The colour is great for that lighter under-eye look, but I can't use it on blemishes as I'd be highlighting them. I plan on buying the next darker shade to cover those pesky blemishes. This was $7.96 at Walmart.

I've included the prices I bought them for so if you see any of these products at your local stores you can perhaps find a better deal, so know you can find them cheaper elsewhere. Hope that's helpful.

What have you purchased recently?

Sally Hansen Cuteapillar

I went into Walmart on the hunt for a beautiful mint polish and I think I succeeded.

Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear in 140 Cuteapillar is from the limited edition Butterfly Kisses collection. I've talked about the formula of these polishes before (here), so I won't go into it again.

This colour is exactly what I was looking for, I've been seeing it everywhere and really didn't own a polish this colour.  I also think it suits my skin tone quite well.

I will definitely be wearing this on my nail loads as we come into summer!

What have you been wearing on your nails lately?

Summer 2015 Bucket List

 (Source)

This past week I've been getting excited for fun summer times ahead. I thought it would be a nice idea to share some of the (realistic) things I'm hoping to do during the summer months.

Here's my current 12 ideas in no particular order:

Upper Clements Park. This is the only good amusement park in the province in my opinion (that I know of). Now that Max is old enough to truly enjoy a trip down to an amusement park, I thought this would be a great day trip for us to make.

Camping at Kejimkujik National Park. Max loves the outdoors so we'd love to make a few more camping trips again this year. It is hard to make the time sometimes, but it's a great family event.

Kayaking. Being out on the water on a hot day is great. It's also quite an arm workout going upstream as well ;)

Beach trips. Last year we didn't make it out to the beach very often, but this year I want to make more of an effort to go. Max and I like to comb the shore for shells and sand dollars, jumping waves, and building sand castles. Being close to the ocean is one of the reasons I love living in Halifax.

Working out. I've always been a relatively active person. However, this summer I want to make more of an effort to fit in 3 workouts a week. I may even try running?! Anyone who knows me well, knows I despise most cardio activities, but I do recognize the value in them, so I may give running a go.

Road trip to New Brunswick. I have family in NB and always find excuses as to why we can't visit. No time, too far, etc. This summer I want to put in the effort to make the drive and spend a weekend exploring the province a bit with loved ones.

Lunchtime waterfront walks. At my new job, I can see the waterfront from my office. I'd love to spend my lunch hour going to a walk along the waterfront, looking at the cute shops that line the area.

Biking at Point Pleasant park. Max got his big boy bike in the fall so he'd love to ride it more this year. Point Pleasant park has lots of trails for him to get the hang of his tippy training wheels.

Fishing. In Jeremy's family, being able to fish almost seems like a right of passage. Max has already been practicing his casting in the yard when we visit. This year he'll be ready to give fishing a go for real. I just hope he'll have enough patience to wait for a fish to bite.

Go blonder. I'm going to bite the bullet and get my hair to the medium ash blonde I've wanted for months.

Evening walks to the park. We have a great park about half a kilometer down the road that Max loves. With sunny evenings throughout the summer, it's nice to have a walk down after supper. It also tires him out before bedtime.

Read a book a month. Being a university student, I don't get the chance to read anything but textbooks throughout the school year. I want to finish at least one book a month during summer break.

There is quite an outdoors theme here. The summer is the perfect time of year to spend the extra time in nature. Jeremy and I are really trying to instill our love of the outdoors in our son, as he's growing up in the city, unlike we did. We believe it's important to spend time in the fresh air outside of the city limits throughout the year.

What are your plans for this summer?

Review | Pantene Pro-V Root Reboot Dry Shampoo

Last night I had a product review post just about ready to publish, finishing up the links etc. when I came across an announcement (or whatever you'd like to call it), stating that the product had just been discontinued. Dammit!! I didn't see the point in doing a post on something that will no longer be available once the shelves clear. So, sorry for the lack of a weekend post this past weekend, but here's a bit of a replacement review for you.

Today I'm talking about the Pantene Pro-V Root Reboot Dry Shampoo.
I've had this product for many months now, just trying to love it, but I can't and here's why:

It smells and acts like a hairspray, with the exception of the white cast. I find it very sticky and stiff.

It doesn't absorb the oil, as a dry shampoo should. I actually find that it accentuates the fact that my hair is getting oily, and needs to be washed.

It is heavy in the roots. If you spray VERY lightly, and hold the hair vertically, spraying directly into the root, it can be used to create some volume, which is was I've been occasionally using it for because I hate to see it go to waste.

This product claims to make hair feel cleaner, instant oil absorption with zero weight. Well, as listed above, I disagree with each of those statements.

I do not recommend this product, though I hate to say it. Generally, I quite enjoy Pantene products, especially their shampoos, conditioners and detanglers.

Have you tried this product? What's your opinion of it?

Ipsy May 2015 Unboxing

I've only been subscribed to Ipsy for a few months, I wrote a post on the first one I received in February. In that post I also go over the details of the subscription, so if you're not sure about pricing etc. go on over to check that out.

The theme for this months bag is Jetsetter.

First off, can we talk about how cute this makeup bag is this month? I cannot wait to carry this around in my purse with me! It reads: 'Contents: My Life. Breakups to Makeup'. Love it. This bag is also a different shape from the others I've received, it's almost square, whereas the others are a standard rectangular shape.

Anyway, moving on, in no particular order. This month I received in my bag:

Urban Decay Revolution High-Color Lipgloss. I got the shades Bittersweet, a bright purple, and Failbait, a light neutral pink. The glosses came in these little pods (pictured above). There seems to be enough product in these for more than one use, but I'm concerned about storing them once opened. Any ideas? This sample also came with the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil in Ozone used to prime the lips. I will definitely get a lot of use out of this with those lip products that tend to bleed on my lips.

Bellapierre Cosmetics Gel Eye Liner in No. 02 Ebony. Pretty standard creamy, black liner. A staple in most peoples makeup stashes. I will get a lot of use out of this product as well. As far as I can tell from swatching it on my hand, it's very pigmented, and doesn't smudge at all. Excited to test this out some more.

IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream in Medium. This says it is 7 products in one: moisturizing day cream, anti-aging serum, dark spot corrector, full coverage foundation, environmental free-radical shield, brightening color corrector, and pore minimizing primer. Hmm... Not sure about all that. But it does have SPF 50+, which will be great in the summer months. I'm intrigued by this product. Have any of you used it? What are your thoughts?

Briogeo Rosarco Milk Reparative Leave-in Conditioning Spray. A blend of Rosehip, Argan and Coconut oils. I'm not a huge fan of leave-in conditioners, but they're good to have on hand when needed. This product does smell really good, which is a plus.

Lastly, St. Tropez One Night Only Instant Glow Body Lotion. I've had this on my to-try list for quite some time now, so I'm happy to get to try 50mls worth before deciding whether to purchase the full size. As someone who doesn't do the whole fake tan thing a whole lot, because of the upkeep etc. that goes along with it, I'm hoping this will be a great product for events, or something like that, where I just want the glow for the night.

There were great brands included in this months bag - super impressed.

Let me know if you'd like a review on anything in particular.

Any recommendations on other beauty subscriptions I should check out? Have you tried any of these products?

Let's Chat!

Hi everyone!

Today's post is going to be a bit of a different one. I just wanted to write a bit of a chatty one today, and maybe get the chance to know you guys a bit better as well.

First off, how was your Mother's Day weekend?

Did you have a nice weekend with your kids? Or did you travel to go see your mom? Or if you still live at home, maybe you and your mom had an extra special day/weekend?

Mother's Day weekend looks a bit different to me than perhaps most. Every year it is kind of like my designated 'kid-free weekend'.

My mom takes Maxwell for a night, this year two, and Jeremy and I get to have some much needed couple time as well as alone time to do whatever we want to. It's the perfect way for us to recharge our parenting batteries lol.

Friday night was date night! After sending Max off on his long journey to Nanny's house, I spent a considerable amount of time getting ready. It felt so nice to just take my sweet old time and pamper myself a bit for a night out with my hubby.

We had a fabulous dinner at Jack Astor's Bar and Grill, which is my favourite restaurant. They have the funniest advertising, art, TV programs etc throughout the place, that I enjoy reading/watching it all while we wait for our meal. I got my favourite chicken burger and fries, with water and white sangria to drink.

Next we went to the theatre to see The Avengers Age of Ultron. I've heard mixed reviews on this movie, but I absolutely loved it and would definitely go see it again. It was both action-packed and hilarious! But I won't go to into it because I don't want to spoil it for any of you.

Overall, we had a great night! These low-key dates are my favourite, a dinner and movie sounds perfect to me, every time.

Saturday started off relaxing, we even got to sleep in!. While Jeremy fixed my car for me (reasons to keep the mechanic around ;) ), I spent my time relaxing, writing my previous blog post, catching up on my favourite blogs and YouTubers, doing yoga etc. But then I had to go to work, unfortunately, while Jeremy spent the evening with his friends.

Sunday, I got to sleep in again - a rarity for us moms! I made Jeremy and I a big breakfast, did what seemed like a million loads of laundry, and other cleaning. Max and my mom came back around supper time and we had a lovely bbq in the 20 degree weather! Steaks, caesar salad, and garlic parmesan potato wedges - yum.

Has anything exciting happened recently?

Last week, I started a new Monday-Friday job for the summer, which I am loving so far. There is a steep learning curve, so I'm finding it a bit overwhelming, but that's just part of the challenge/excitement of starting a new job. This new position fits well within the degree I'm taking at university, so I hopefully I continue to enjoy it and learn lots. Maybe it'll be a good career opportunity in about a year's time when I'll hopefully be graduating.

Any products I should check out?

Let me know what new products you would like to see reviews on, and products you just think I should try because maybe you've been loving them recently.

I've been saving up my tips from my other job, and didn't know what to spend it on, but I think some new makeup is in order lol. Isn't it always?

What have you been reading?

I just finished The Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks today (post). It was so good! The end was a bit predictable, but not in a bad way, just that you knew what was coming. This book had me in tears many times, it was heart warming, and at time gut wrenching. Well done Mr. Sparks. If you haven't read it yet, I'd recommend it. What should I read next?

Anyway I think I've rambled on enough seeing as how Jeremy has dozed off waiting for me to finish so we can watch our show before bed.

Let me know if you like these sorts of posts every once in a blue moon.

Let's chat in the comments! Ask me some questions, or answer some of mine above, I'd love to hear from you!

Night!

Empties | Products I've Used Up

Today I thought I'd do my first empties/products I've used up post because I had a few items collected in my basket and I noticed this morning I'm about to run out of a ton of products in the coming weeks. The thought of my first empties post being even longer than this one seemed a bit too daunting to me for whatever reason.

Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer for Fair to Medium Skin Tones. I've had this floating around my stash for almost 3 years. I never used it that consistently because I found that if you applied it a few days in a row, which is its intended use, it gave be an obvious orange-y appearance, not a good look. I did like to use it when I was feeling extra pastey, and planned on wearing a leg revealing outfit the next day because it did provide just a bit of extra colour. I have heard the the one for Medium to Tan Skin Tones provides more of an olive colour so I may give that one a try next.

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB. This is kind of a cheat item as it's not actually empty, though it has expired and needs to be thrown away. As the bottle says, it is a 'light sheer tint', it provides minimal coverage and colour. To be honest, I get more coverage out of a tinted moisturizer than this product. I did like that it has SPF 30, but other than that, I wasn't too impressed which is why I didn't use it that often. I will not repurchase this BB cream, there are better out there.
Batiste Dry Shampoo Wild scent. Batiste is the best dry shampoo I've ever tried! If you read my hair training post, you'd know that I'm shampooing less and in major need of A LOT of dry shampoo. I love the scent of this as well, it's my favourite of the ones I've tried. I buy mine at Marshalls where it's $6.99, it's definitely the best deal I've seen, though it's a hit or miss with the scents unfortunately.

Fruits & Passion Orange Cantaloupe Shower Gel. I received a whole set of this scent as a gift awhile ago, and at first I thought orange cantaloupe would be such a strange combination. This smell, oh my, so good! It is a bit strange, as I expected, but in the best way possible. I just got around to finishing this up because I have so many shower gels, (it seems to be a very popular gift item with my family  though I'm not complaining, I love smelling good ;) ). If you have a chance to smell this, do it!

Little Luxuries Soapworks Whipped Cream Soap Sex on the Beach scent. This body wash is a very strange texture, it is kind of like whipped cream, as the name would suggest, but much, much thicker. I found it a bit hard to get used to. However, it smells amazing, and I felt clean which is all I ask for in a body wash. It is also made in my tiny home town, and is only $5! I've linked a vendor  you can order from online, and there is also an etsy shop. I just think it's great to support small town businesses.
NUDE ProGenius Treatment Oil. This is another cheat product. I thought this product would be great for breakouts, but it seems to do the opposite. After I first suspected it was making my skin worse not better, I stopped using it for awhile, took note of my skin and tried it once more. Sure enough, I was right. This is quite a pricey skincare item as well, I'm glad I only got the 0.33 fl oz bottle to try. I will definitely not be repurchasing.

Racinne Ultimate Aqua Blanc. I used up a three day sample of this brightening cream and saw a noticeable difference in my acne scarring! It said on the sample package that it 'effectively brightens the look of your skin in 2 weeks' but after seeing such fast results, I will definitely be buying the full size product. It's also not that expensive for a quality skin care product.

Guerlain Maxi Lash mascara. Another sample product I've used up. This is an amazing volumizing mascara! I have never heard anyone else talk about it, but maybe I missed the memo, so I didn't have big expectation when it came with one of my Sephora orders so I was pleasantly surprised! The formula and the bristle brush are just great! I will be repurchasing the full size when I use up a few more mascaras.

Finally, Melaleuca Sun Valley Exfoliating Sugar Scrub Black Currant scent. Once upon a time, I was a member of Melaleuca and bought this sugar scrub along with a body butter in the same scent. The scent is sweet, yet tart. It was good as far as sugar scrubs go, nothing spectacular.

Have you tried any of these products? What did you think of them?
