Top 5 | Blushes

Another new series happening on the blog, my 'Top 5' series. Today we're talking blushes!

Blush is one of those products I just seem to accumulate, even though if asked, I would not say it is one of my favourite beauty products, yet I have a ton of it. These five blushes are the ones I've been reaching for consistently over all others in my collection.

Revlon in Naughty Nude - This blush is my number 1! It goes with every single look imaginable. It reminds me a lot of Nars Douceur, which I don't own. In the pan, it looks like nothing special, even swatched (below), as it is exactly as the name suggests, a nude shade. But, because it is nude it doesn't clash with a bright lip, or smokey eye, etc. It also adds a slight, healthy glow to the cheeks, in a non-shimmery way.

Milani Baked in Luminoso - A cult classic, and my second most worn blush. This shade is described  as a luminous peach. Though I wear this year-round, it definitely gets the most love in the summer, as it is so glowy. When using this blush, on an everyday basis, I don't feel the need to add a highlight as well.

Maybelline Mineral Power in True Peach - Though this particular product has been discontinued, I wanted to share it anyway. I feel that many people pass by many mineral or loose powder blushes. This vibrant, coral peach blush is so long-wearing! To apply, using a light hand, I take what product has been left in the lid of the container, because it is so pigmented. Because you are using so little product, it will last forever, as you can see in the top picture, I have had this product since it was new on the market, and it is now discontinued, it has been many years and it still looks like I haven't used it.

[L-R: Naughty Nude, Luminoso, True Peach, Melba, Orgasm]

Mac in Melba - My first Mac blush has remained a firm favourite in my collection. This soft matte peach shade goes so well with my warm complexion. I am inclined to think that this shade is suitable to so many skin tones because it looks great on my skin at my fairest (now), and in the middle of summer when I am 3 foundation shades darker.

Nars in Orgasm - This blush is a love it or hate it type of item. The peachy pink shade appears a slightly more natural or sheer than some others swatched above, but then you notice the intense gold shimmer. This is another blush I wear mostly in the summer time, or for a night out due to the shimmer.

I am obviously a fan of peachy shades in terms of blush, I feel that they compliment my skin tone the best. What is your favourite blush? What makeup item would you like to see next?

February Favourites | 2016

Sorry my favourites are a bit late this month! But I hope the fact that I have a ton to share with you this month will make up for it :)

L'Oréal Hair Expertise Arginine Resist X3 - I've written an entire post about these three products, which you can read here. My hair hasn't been in this great of a condition since before bleach two or three years ago. My hair is stronger, healthier, and falls out significantly less!

LUSH Mask of Magnaminty - I've been suffering from terrible breakouts over the past month. Using this super cleansing mask all over once a week, plus overnight on my targeted breakout areas every few nights has made a dramatic difference. This mask is very intense, it is similar to the Origins Clear Improvement mask, in that is deep cleanses your pores, but this LUSH one is much 'harsher' in comparison. I'm thinking of doing a more in-depth review on this product, let me know if you're interested.

Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette - I purchased this palette in the Sephora VIB Sale and hadn't been reaching for it as often as I should. After recreating KathleenLight's 'Go To Look' using this palette, I remembered why I bought it in the first place, and fell back in love. This palette is just so versatile, and smells like chocolate! What more could you want in a palette?

Mac Blush in Melba - This matte coral-peach shade is a classic. It goes with every look, and is my go-to matte shade lately.

Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara - I currently have a sample size of this mascara that I got in my November Ipsy bag, and have been loving it! It has a natural bristle brush, which is massive! It is literally just as big as my eye. The large brush ensures all the lashes are coated evenly with mascara, but sometimes I end up with it all over my lid. That's easily fixed, so I think the full, voluminous lashes I get with this is worth the occasional mess.

The Body Shop Bronzer in 02 Fair Matte - I know I've talked about this bronzer before (here, and here) but it is just so good! I especially love it during the winter months; when I'm at my fairest. It is a fairly neutral shade of bronzer; not too warm/orange and blends beautifully. I think this bronzer is definitely under-rated.

L'Oréal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation -This is a recent purchase of mine. Although I have super oily skin, this foundation provides a really healthy look to my skin. It's light to maybe medium coverage. No, it doesn't last a super long tome on my skin, but it does last long enough to get though classes, or an afternoon of errands, etc. It's quick, easy to apply and makes your skin look amazing.

Sephora Formula X Nail Polish in Fahrenheit - I pulled this color out for Valentine's Day, and have been wearing it ever since. It is the perfect, classic red! I love the formula of the Formula X polishes; it's one of my favourites.

Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy Perfume - This was my most worn scent for the past month. The notes of berries, vanilla, and jasmine provide a very wearable scent for day or night. The bottle is a bit tacky, in my opinion, but it's what's inside that counts. I feel like this perfume is another classic that many people love, and for good reason.

Game of Thrones Books - I am finally understanding the hype for Game of Thrones. I've resisted watching the TV series, until I could read the books. I'm that way with most movies and TV series that are based off books. I received the entire book set for Christmas 2014, and hadn't gotten around to reading them. I picked it up before this past Christmas, and found it hard to get into at first. Once I got to know the characters, I haven't been able to put it down. I'll have no trouble getting through the box set, after which I will be buying the DVD set to binge watch!

If you've made it to the end of this lengthy blog post - I congratulate you! I know it was long, but I felt I had so much to share this month and wanted to tell you about all of it.

What were you loving throughout February?

Review | L'Oréal Hair Expertise Arginine Resist X3

I've been using the L'Oréal Hair Expertise Arginine Resist X3 line for the past two weeks, and I can honestly say, my hair hasn't felt this great since before bleach, which was a few years ago! This review features the shampoo, conditioner, and the reinforcing leave-in spray.

Claims

64% less hair fall. From weak, fragile hair with a tendency to fall to strong, restructured hair.

Shampoo - "A strengthening shampoo with Arginine cleanses the scalp and nourishes the root, leaving hair stronger."

Conditioner - " A nourishing conditioner that penetrates hair from root to tip for hair that is soft, strong, and shiny."

Reinforcing Leave-in Root Spray - "A targeted root spray that stimulates micro-circulation at the bulb, ensuring the hair grows stronger from the root leaving it more resistant to hair fall."

Arginine

Arginine is an essential amino acid that is important for blood flow and nitric acid levels. Athletes commonly use Arginine as a supplement, according to this article.

Product Overview

The packaging is pretty standard for the shampoo and conditioner. But, the nozzle on the leave-in spray is perfect for targeting your roots. The fine mist doesn't over saturate your hair, leaving it greasy in spots, it disperses the product evenly.

The suggested retail price (CAD) for these products are $6.99 for the shampoo and conditioner, and $8.49 for the reinforcing leave-in spray but you can most likely find them cheaper at Walmart, or Amazon.

Since using this shampoo my scalp has been significantly less irritated, leading to my hair loss and breakage returning to almost normal levels; instead of by the handful every time I washed my hair. My hair feels cleaner; I have rarely used dry shampoo and haven't needed to use a clarifying shampoo, but my hair is not stripped either, it's the perfect balance.

The conditioner leaves my hair feeling soft, but not so much that I can't put it up, or do anything with it. It has restored the shine in my hair, which has been lacking since I bleached it a few years ago.

The reinforcing leave-in spray is a bit harder to review based on its claims above. I have no way of knowing if the micro-circulation in my scalp has improved. But I can tell you, that I don't believe a shampoo and conditioner on their own can provide the same results that I've had since using this hair line. I've applied this treatment after every wash to the roots, brushing through the lengths while my hair is wet/damp. My hair loss was a combination of an irritated scalp, and fine hair prone to breakage. So if my hair wasn't breaking off because it was so fine, it was just falling out right at my scalp. I believe it is this hair treatment that has made such a dramatic difference.

My hair feels strong, nourished and healthy thanks to the shampoo and conditioner, and the breakage and hair loss has decreased significantly thanks to the leave-in spray, over a two week time period. This hair line is fabulous for those of you with fragile hair, prone to breakage, as mine was. I plan on picking up the other two products in this line, the hair mask, and Instant Miracle, as I love these products so much. These product are the best products I have ever used in my hair, at least that I can recall.

I hope this review was helpful! :)
