Skincare Overhaul | Part 3

It's been over six months since my last skincare overhaul post so I figured it was about time to update y'all on my recent skincare additions and how they're working for my problematic skin.

If you're new to this blog, or you just hadn't seen my previous two posts, you can read them HERE (1) and HERE (2). The first post covered the beginning of my struggle with acne, how it's changed as I've gotten older, it also documented the beginning of this skincare overhaul or journey I have been on, and my skin type etc.

To recap slightly, since integrating the previous five products into my skincare routine, my skin was  less oily than before, with fewer breakouts, and more redness.

Here are the four most recent products introduced into my skincare routine:

Lush Mask of Magnaminty - This mask is the most intense product I have ever applied to my face. When Lush claims deeply cleansed skin, they aren't kidding. I apply this when my skin is doing particularly poorly. It clears clogged pores, and dries out blemishes. I always follow this mask with a hydrating treatment because or else it is too intense for my sensitive skin.

Philosophy Purity Made Simple Cleanser - I prefer using an ultra gentle cleanser in the morning, it also couldn't make me any more oily, but also not dry out on skin. After some research, my tall order was filled with this cleanser. After my morning cleanse, my skin feels clean, and toned but not tight or greasy. It also claims to remove all makeup, but I have yet to test that out.

Ole Henriksen Invigorating Night Treatment - At first, I thought this resurfacing treatment was causing me to breakout worse. But after a few more weeks I realized that, yes, it was breaking me out but everytime it cleared up, my skin's texture was greatly improved. It really is the strangest thing. The only thing I can think of it that the 12 source AHA complex is a bit too intense for my sensitive skin, but it's still doing it's job of solving my texture issues so I'm going to continue to use it, just less often. Instead of every night, I am now using it every second or third night.

Bioré Pore Strips - I picked these up for the first time since junior high. I use these if I'm getting horrible clogged pores, and don't want to use the Lush mask. These are actually great, I forgot how well they work. They keep my skin clear around my nose, and they don't dry out my skin. Definitely a great drugstore buy.

Since integrating these products into my routine, my skin's texture is so much smoother, and my breakouts are less frequent, but they are worse when they happen. My breakouts mostly consistent of cystic spots, which are super painful and take a long time to heal.

My skincare journey is far from over but I will continue to share the new products I'm trying out here on the blog if you like these posts. Please leave your recommendations in the comments. Also, if you'd like a more comprehensive review on any of these products, I'd be more than happy to do that for you.

  1. The Purity cleanser is a great one. I haven't used it in a while, but I used to really love it.
